The sport was born in Holland through the SBTSC-NL which has organized the Dutch Staffords Athletics (DSA) since 2009. Over the years, the community has grown and developed into an international association, one which is still actively expanding worldwide, with Sanctioned events all across Europe and all the way down in South America.

 

What we seek to promote and celebrate, above all, is an active life with our canine companions, one that fulfills the natural instincts, drives and desires of this very special type of dog, giving them a deep form of enrichment for their lives that is fine tuned to their needs and typical likes, and subsequently, our own.

 

Stafford Athletics is, however, more than fun, it was developed as a tool for breeders and preservationists to test their dogs' capabilities, both physical and mental, in a humane way.

 

Our sport unites 10 distinct disciplines specifically designed to test a variety of essential abilities and qualities in the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and other Bull And Terrier breeds, such as endurance, stamina, strength, power, agility, elasticity, speed, explosivity, tenacity and durability, both mental and physical.

 

Through our sport we intend to evaluate the basic components that would not only have been of incredible importance and use for the breed's historical work, but are also essential anatomical, biomechanical and metabolic qualities for any dog to be able to enjoy a full life, free of unnecessary limitations often perpetuated solely for aesthetic value.
