POWER SPRINT

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS

The dog has to run as fast as possible across a 50 meter track while dragging weights (chains as per tradition), the time will be measured electronically. The maximum distance run-up from the first measuring gate is 1.5 meters; the dog's front feet to be placed at the limit mark. The dog should be started with a straight weight line, so make sure there is tension on the weight line before releasing the dog to run. Bait can be anything, the lure machine, a toy of personal choice or flirtpole (most popular). You may use a wide collar or harness of your choosing.

The dog has to drag half of the desired body weight that is written in the Staffordshire Bull terrier breed standard for a dog of his size (class.)

Weights per class are as follows:

14" class: 6.5kg

15" class: 7.5kg

16" class: 8.5kg

17" class: 9.5kg

18"+ class: 10.5kg

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

The primary objective of the Power Sprint is to evaluate the strength-relative-to-size of the dog as well as the burst of explosiveness and power it can generate, which were primordial qualities in the breed's historical function.

To a lesser extent the power sprint also tests the dog's raw prey drive and willpower to pursue an object of interest in spite of adversity.
